American Soldier slideshow and captions

A. What is the most powerful image from the slideshows? Why? The most powerful image from the slide show is where he is on his cell phone and he is holding a gun. Because he is in a completely different environment now so he doesn't know what to expect in this new evil world.

B. What sequence of photographs is the most powerful? Why? The most powerful sequence of photos are powerful of the Army. Because it shows the change of  how he is in the army now and how it's going to change him completely.

C.How do the images work together to tell a story? It is shown in a arranged order

A. For the photos in which Ian is the main subject of the photos, in what tense are the verbs usually written? Most of the verbs are written in present tense.

B. How do the captions enhance the photographs? The captions enhance the photos by saying what the picture is showing, so not only do you have visual, but also verbal aid.

Chapter 3 :BASIC TRAINING picture #23.
Ian falls asleep in his room and is the victim of a prank pulled by fellow troop John.
Chapter 2: In The Army Picture #6.Ian Fisher closes his eyes and reminisces while he is getting his hair shaved his third day in the army.
Chapter 8: Coming home picture #26 Ian holds hands with his girlfriend and mother in a parking lot feeling good about seeing each other again.

A. How do these other features enhance the photographs? These features enhance the photography by telling us more of the stuff like behind the story meaning the picture, them speaking and telling us what's really going on.

B. In what ways are videos better than photographs? Provide an example from the Denver Post Web site.Videos are better than photographs by giving it the advantage for them to speak explain their selves  of whats happening instead of in a photo, you have to take a strong  guess on what's really going on in the photo.

C. In what ways are photos better than videos? Provide an example from the Denver Post Web site.Photos are better than videos by catching what people cant see, you get too look at and examine the photo for a very long time, and also you can be able to make up your own story and examine it. In Video's you cant do that, you have to watch listen and look which in some situations is kinda boring.

What the pros are doing - Repetition

Both the seats in the plane and the TV screens show repetition.
Doe-Eyed
Lisa Simpson appears on television screens on a new Singapore Airlines Airbus A380 after its inaugural passenger flight from Singapore to Sydney, Australia.

The Repetition of the soldiers make the Old Lady stand out
Granny's Got A Gun
A member of the National Revolutionary Militia shows off her rifle during Militia Day in Caracas, Venezuela.

The repetition of the hands lead to the center where the lady is making a different hand gesture with her hands
Hand Out

Marlboro Marine

  •  2. A. Luis Sinco not only took great photos but put audio in the slideshow giving it a meaning of feeling.... kinda..giving it that depressing feel when watching the show and also narrated making it seem like your right there with them.

  • B. Well like i said the audio gave the slideshow a feeling of depression , something the soldier felt after this stupid war.

  • 3. A. The most powerful image in the slide show was the photo of Miller looking out with feeling in his eyes. I like this photo because it showed the hopelessness in his eyes of him even surviving the war.

  • B. The best sequence of photos were the ones where he was on top of the parking meter and looking at people passing by, then he looks at the camera then looks down. I like these photos because it shows that he cant live a modern life without having to remember the harsh memories.

  • C.  Like i said before the audio enhances the slideshow by giving it some feeling to it. Kinda like setting the mood.

  • D. The images make it look like a picture book to where you can actually see what happened other than having to imaging all the stuff.

Contests Preview, Show and Tell

Raef Payne
First Place

Environmental Self Portrait
2004 Winter Conference
Arlington HS
Arlington, TX

This photo inspires me because of the lighting of the pic on the left side. I don't know what this person is doing put the lighting of the photo is phenomenal, kinda reminds me of  magic (Not that stupid fake crap, the real shiz). And i also like the outline of the guy and how it doesn't his face giving him that dark feel into him. The picture looks like the dark man is either making something with fire or using some kind of lighting and give it a magical feel. I wanna go eat a magician now :).

Great black and White photographers part 3 2/2

What really caught my eye were the weird looking goggles and how with only the rule of thirds it created emphasis on the face.
I See:
I see the workshop ahead as it is rocking back and forth because of the water. I prepare my goggles so i wont burn out my eyes with all the bright lights of construction raging around me. I ready myself as i will have a long day.

I Smell:
I smell something like iron a pretty disgusting smell as i walk through the construction. But as i get out of the boat i smell the fresh ocean air around me. Oh how the air smells...so crisp.

I Hear:
I hear my boss yelling at some new incomers the directions of the blueprints. It is hard for me to make out the words through all the hammering and work around the boat. Sooner or later I'm gonna go deaf.

I Taste:
I taste my sandwich in my mouth as i bite and chew my way through hunger. Finally during a hard days work i get to relax for a bit. But the just thought of me having to go back to work here in a couple minuets bums me out.

I Feel:
I feel the cold metal as i pound through for a check to help my homeless family. Soon i get to buy my family a nice house to where i would be look as a "godly" figure. But right now i just really wanna go see my family..so tired...the thought of my soft bed makes me more tired.

Great black and White photographers part 3 1/2

What caught my eye was how the man in this picture seemed like he was praying for his life kinda so he can live through and go back to his family.
I See:
I see bullets flaring past me. My men around me around me fall one after the other to the floor...bleeding.
I can not do anything for i am not a medic of any kind...knowing this my men pray with there last breathe for forgiveness.

I Smell:
I smell rotting flesh from a mile away. I inhale dirt in the air, not having a gas mask. The foul smell gives me a headache .

I Hear:
I hear my men's blood curdling screams as we are shoot down like sitting ducks in a pond. The sound of bullets ring throughout my head as i hear the noise repeatedly. I also hear my heart pound against my chest as the adreline pumps through me.

I Taste:
I taste the blood running down my cheek as i was scraped by a bullet. I am lucky to have lived through out the whole war but i cant forget all the deaths of my friends. I can almost remember the taste of not only smelling or inhaling the dirt but also the taste of it too.

I Feel:
I feel my friend's body go cold as I hold him in my arms. I feel that soon most of my men will pass away without even living there lives. Oh how cruel this world is...

Academics Preview Part Three

Filling The Frame:
This photo is filling the frame by showing the seriousness on the kids face as he works to get the arteries of the heart in great detail for a special project.

Academics Preview Part Two

Action or Emotion:
This photo shows the best emotion and action by showing the interest in the kids face as they discover new things.

Academics Preview Part One

The Story:
This one tells the best story because it shows a young adult showing little kids a story...basically like showing the little kids the necessities of life.
